Meteor was bought from Ron Leaney by Doug Ray of Devonport Tas in 1971.
He was a member of the Nor West Power Boat Club & raced her for a year or two before selling to another member Lou Murfet.
She remained in the club with other owners & was last raced in December 1981 when the current owner at that time was involved in a fatal accident in a different craft.
I had heard Meteor remained in the area & was being used for alternative boating services.
I have had Ron Leaney's Piranha skiff since 1992 minus engine.
She is in excellent condition & hasn't seen the water since 1978 having only had one season's racing since coming to Tassie in 1977 with Max Roach at the helm.

Thanks for all the information Alan. I knew that you had Piranha but did not know that Meteor went to Tassie also. Do you have plans to get Piranha back onto the water?

Hi Bob/Chris,
Would like to see Piranha back in the water again.
Probably should set a date to be finished by so that it happens & as Chris has seen making some room in the garage would help.
Bob, would you have any old photos or articles on Piranha?
It would be much appreciated if you can come up with something as Ron only had one good photo of her racing.
Chris, hope to be there in February.

Regards,
Alan

I'll have a look Alan to see what I have, but nothing comes to mind. To help me, do you know the years that Ron raced Piranha?

BTW - what engine do you plan on running?

Bob

Hi Bob,
Ron raced Piranha from 1971 to 1976.
Thinking about a 4age toyota twin cam to power her.
Regards,
Alan.
