A word back from Clive Cams today regarding the lifters getting refaced again. One lifter has cracked through the base. I'm feeling lucky considering the damage that would have been done if it failed. I'm going to look at alternatives now and am thinking about coming up with an adjustable solid design so there is no need to by different length pushrods if I'm changing cams down the track.

I need to have a yak with a guy in Tassie with the humpy racers about that. He did a conversion for his grey motor but I see he's flogged it all off and gone back to flat face lifters. May not have been a success. I think ramp rates might be the issue.

I got the lifters back today including the cracked one. I'm not convinced it failed in the engine. The crack can be flexed open as the lifter is all but separated. If the crack developed to this severity in the engine it would have failed well before this point. I'm thinking it may have been crushed in the facing machine as the crack is at the point where the inside ID goes from solid at the base to hollow for the pushrods seat. My pushrods are supported by cups at the top of the lifter so any major side loading at lift occurs there.

Engine work finished. Just need water time to sort mixtures and timing. Now working on taper sleeve and props to test run with.

Going to call this engine the "Mini Merlin" :D

I'm now experimenting with header lengths and expansion chamber theory. First step is to see if this moves the reversion to a different RPM and or stops the resonance in the exhaust.

Individual pipes 32"
3 into 6" collectors with 2" outlet
Tail pipe 18" straight pipe 2" diam / made to slip on and off collector outlet so you can play with megaphones if you want.
Worked well on 149 Red.
Collector was made to slip on and off primary pipes so they could be made longer also. Megaphone 2" to 4" over 26" length.
