Ray - re that FB pic of the steering set up - if you massage the steering bracket so the pick up points are on direct centerline of the tilt/trim axis - then the steering will work without any slackness. The big boys do basically the same thing but use hydraulic cylinders centered on the tilt / trim...

Just did a quick theory check on linear expansion differential between Aluminum and Cast iron -varies a bit with alloys - AL is twice CI so @ 200F the difference is 0.0012/inch of spacer length. yes there are a few traps - with a new system we start with the dry sump tank 3/4 full - run the engine to warm up then drop back to idle - if the tank is more than half full at idle then should be ok you could top up to 3/4 at idle - if tank is nearly empty the scavange pump is too small. if scavan...
