Yep I'll need a few more blades to finish the job. How's Nirvana going?

Re: Thunda Babe

Decided to use the multi tool to knock off the heads of the rivets and then knocked the remains into the hull. This saved me having to crawl inside under the deck plus didn't compromise the plank as a pattern. Keel appears to be a nice reddish colour hardwood with no rot whatsoever. Hopefully it's g...

Bob Vic wrote:That's good news. Are you replacing all of the planks?

I think I will at this stage Bob. All of the planks are cracked where the nails go in at the transom. Not sure I have alternative other than shortening the boat by a foot or more if I didn't replace them.

More progress. Now flipped (thanks Ross). Removed the outer keel board so I could check the state of the keel. So far it looks OK with only some minor grain cracking on the inside mainly where screws have been driven through. No rot evident and it's nice and solid.

Probably Ray, but it would have been hard cutting the rivets upside down lol.

Re: Thunda Babe

I've decided on doing a full replank due to all the damage found. Today was a frustrating day. Took the best part of five hours to get one gunnel off. Steel screws were the problem as the heads stripped out. Anyway it's slow progress but still moving forward. 280276339_332671588973637_23663879210507...

Re: Thunda Babe

Craig i went through this with Zarak .If you are going to do a full plank be careful removing it as i used them as a template for the new ones . I think the nails get bent and put pressure on the plank when they are hammered to try and tighten them they can't compress so they bend putting pressure ...

Re: Thunda Babe

Another split plank and a heap of split and broken ribs. Both bearers cracked through front engine mount holes. A lot of nails badly bent. It's a bit of a major job by the looks of it.
