WOOD ON WATER

Finally, a publication that reflects on our Australian wooden powerboat history.

Graham Lloyd has produced a coffee table book on a selection of classic Australian wooden powerboats.

You may recall Graham's name from a few years back when he was editor of Australian Powerboat magazine and from when he self-published his ‘Cool Boats’ book in 2002. In both situations he tried to publicise wooden power boats as he had had a life-long fascination with them, as well as an admiration for their owners, who he believed deserved more publicity than generally came their way.

Graham had also contributed to Club Marine magazine for many years including covering one of the bi-annual Classic & Wooden Boat Festivals in Sydney.

Graham's latest book is titled ‘Wood On Water’ and features just about all the wooden boats from his magazine articles and the Cool Boats book (which was a smaller 30 by 21 cms format). Also included is a short feature on Classic Australian Wooden Power Boat Association.

Below are a couple of images which give an idea of the content, layout and quality of the 32cm by 28cm, 160-page hardcover book with premium photo paper.

It should mentioned that this book was a one-off produced mainly for Graham's own reference. However, after a few people saw the book and asked for copies, Graham wondered whether it might be worthwhile letting CAWPBA members and the wider wooden power boat community know about it – especially as there’s virtually nothing else of this caliber about Aussie wooden power boats (that we are aware of anyway).

The ‘downside’ of this book being a one-off is that each copy costs about $200 – they’re printed in America using the Blurb self-publishing process. The price includes shipping and GST.

Graham also has a few copies of his COOL BOATS remaining at $30 each, including postage.
